National Grid seeks a highly qualified, experienced technical expert on energy efficiency for commercial/industrial/institutional buildings. This individual will be responsible for generation of energy efficiency opportunities in the commercial/industrial/institutional new construction market in National Grid territories. This individual will also be responsible for developing customer relationships and collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders groups.
Job Purpose

Coordinate the new construction and large retrofit/renovation markets of energy efficiency opportunities to contribute to National Grid's energy savings targets. The successful candidate will work directly with existing Lead Account Representative, customers, architectural and engineering firms, construction mangers and commercial real estate developers on the design and implementation of energy efficiency practices for commercial building projects. This position requires technical and building specification skills to apply high performance building design practices as well as analytical, program management and communications expertise. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work independently, contribute effectively as a team member and leader and to collaborate effectively with other internal teams and outside organizations. Additionally individual will have project management requirements and expectations to secure a portion of the new construction market toward active participation in adopting National Grid's standards for high performance integrated design
Core Responsibilities

Strategic Lead - As a lead, be responsible for delivering to customers solutions for better building practices that generate energy savings in line with the Company's regulated charter for achieving energy savings goals established by the public utility commissions in MA, NY and RI. . The overall focus will be to ensure that new construction and major retrofit/renovation projects are designed to use energy in the most cost effective manner. As a deep subject matter expert in high performance buildings this individual will help to prepare he Company to begin to provide services for Zero Net Energy ready buildings and the next stage of new design services to aid in this rapid adoption by the design community.
Serve as the single point of contact and act as customers advocate satisfactorily resolving needs and exceeding expectations. Create value for the customers by understanding the needs of the customer, develop solutions and deliver results. Develop and maintain strong internal and external business relationships.
Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills in order to track progress of energy efficiency projects and expected to contribute to owners design team meetings with a focus on high performance value added energy services Work with National Grid management and inside/outside sales representatives to identify energy efficiency projects and needs.
Program Improvement- Proactively seek ways to generate additional energy savings, researching/implementing best practices, exploring ways to streamline processes, and developing communication materials. Collaborate with internal partners to develop robust strategies that offer best-in-class approaches to energy savings via codes and standards.
Storm Duty/Emergency Response - During periods of major power outages due to storms or other activities, the Lead will serve as a Community Liaison to a designated National Grid territory as close to their home residence as possible.


General Accountabilities and Tasks

Proactively develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Represent National Grid values when meeting with all large commercial and industrial customers and other building industry representatives
Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the business by remaining aware of energy efficiency technologies, and learning and sharing best practices.
Develop and maintain a technical understanding of code development, adoption, and implementation processes for the commercial/industrial/institutional sectors.
Coordinate the day-to-day relationship with customers and design professionals.
Create and maintain an industry presence for National Grid through representation and participation in industry-related organizations and events.
Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering or a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in high performance building energy design practices. A Masters degree in Architecture/Engineering is preferred.
Architecture and Engineering sales experience is a plus.
A deep understanding of comprehensive design within the commercial/industrial/institutional sectors.
Previous commercial building design or mechanical/electrical engineering and applied architecture work experience a plus.
Strong sustainable design, building science and technical abilities including the ability to analyze and manage projects and consulting engineers.
Familiarity with high performance green design practices and standards in the built environment.
Good interpersonal/communication skills and strong customer focus with an ability to speak publicly and make presentations to design professionals
Must have working knowledge of corporate business support applications.
